UNStudio has announced the award-winning design of the K31 Courtyard, a residential complex in Moscow that facilitates community building in a rapidly changing city. With a tiered podium and two towers, this proposal aims to reinterpret the typical Moscow courtyard block and create a new district through a variety of residential types, amenities and outdoor spaces.

In recent years, the city of Moscow has converted its former industrial land into a residential area with the approval of a new master plan, and densification has become a challenge in fostering a sense of community. This design addresses this issue by fostering a sense of belonging and security, encouraging indoor and outdoor life, and providing a variety of social opportunities. The stepped terrace on the podium is designed to provide ample natural light for the apartment on the courtyard side and to provide additional equipment to the adjacent unit in the form of a porch, greenhouse and orange. This project includes various apartment types, kindergartens, fitness centers, commercial spaces, underground parking lots and parks. In addition, each tower has its own podium shared area, coworking space, sports facilities and a resident clubhouse.
